Big Heads
Big Heads
I have been working on a series of paintings–informal portraits of fictional characters who live in my world–a slightly weird but very creative place. Intrigued, my students have tried their hands at painting informal portraits as well. We have come to refer to them as the “big heads”. Here is an example, “Wearing a Rose”.
The Challenge
I am thinking of creating one, 8″ x 8″, “big head” a week for all of 2012. Just so we’re clear,”Wearing a Rose” is 14″ x 14″. My imaginary world is quite vast so I know I will not deplete my cast of characters. I’ll let you know if I decide to follow through. I may require a pep team at some point.
Local Artisans
Here is a bit of information that you may have missed. The Scotts Valley Artisans has moved to 230-D Mount Herman Road–still in the Kings Village Shopping Center but now in the former Scotts Valley Library location, next to the Cineplex theater and Bruno’s BBQ. Over 160 artists, all residents of Santa Cruz county, are displaying handmade gifts, furniture, pottery and fine art. I hope you will think of them first when you need a special gift. Supporting local artists is a smart way to support the community.
Until the next time,
